On Day 5, my friend and I went around the city of Amsterdam. It was nice to just wander and see the architecture, since I am an architecture nerd. The city seems so unique to me, probably because, at least where I live in the USA – everything is so cookie cutter and mass produced. Thank you, urban sprawl!
To the left is one of my favorite photos. This was the top of the Royal Palace in Amsterdam, nicely set against a gorgeous blue sky. I have this thing about taking certain photos; I like weird angles, and focusing on parts instead of the whole. I think it is easier to tell a story that way.
This palace was about a 3 minute walk from where I stayed in Amsterdam, in the Dam Square. It is very busy with tourists, and while there, we saw a group of missionaries. I couldn’t help but admire them for trying to spread religion so close to de Wallen (red light district).
As with most tourists, I fell in love with the Amsterdam canals. I took this photo from one of the bridges,
looking toward a church. On this particular day, it was about 16C, which is about 60F. For May, for me, that is absolutely cold! In Utah, I am used to about 26C or higher. This year has been an exception with the never ending winter, so it wasn’t too much of an adjustment. But, I’ve never worn 2 shirts, a jacket and a scarf in May. It was nice!
There was something calming about listening to the water, the sounds of people riding by on bikes and the chitter chatter of the tourists. Feeling the sun on my cheeks, the breeze in the air and feeling the history all around me…it was just a beautiful day that I won’t ever forget.

Hey, I `ve also been to Amsterdam. I had a great time there. Look at my video`s at http://www.go2c-amsterdam.tv
It`s a great place to be!
I’ve been to Amsterdam a number of times now, and it seems every time I go back there is something I missed the last time. No matter where you turn there is always a great picture waiting to be taken.
